Your Guide for Getting to Huntsville

Nestled in the heart of the stunning Muskoka region, Huntsville is the ultimate year-round destination. Whether you are looking to hike rugged trails, relax by a pristine lake, or explore a vibrant downtown filled with local shops and dining, the journey sets the perfect tone for a northern getaway.

The travel landscape to Muskoka is expanding rapidly. Below is a comprehensive guide on how to get to Huntsville right now, followed by an exciting sneak peek at upcoming transit options making their way to town.

Options Include:

  1. Drive
  2. Bus
  3. Train (Coming Soon!)

Road Trip: Hit the Open Highway

There is nothing quite like a classic road trip to Muskoka, and the drive to Huntsville is famously beautiful. As you near the town limits, the scenery transforms dramatically. The highway cuts through the breathtaking Canadian Shield, offering towering rock faces, dense forests of pine and maple, and glimpses of sparkling blue water. Keep your eyes peeled for the vibrant fall colors if you are driving up in autumn, or the snow-capped trees that turn the drive into a literal winter wonderland.

Hassle-Free Parking: Where to Leave the Car for Free

Exploring the vibrant downtown core is incredibly easy thanks to Huntsville's welcoming parking options. You can park for free right on Main Street for up to 3 hours, which is the perfect amount of time to grab a bite to eat or browse the local shops. If you need a bit more time to explore, you are encouraged to head to one of the side streets or take advantage of the town's convenient public parking lots. Excellent free parking lots can be found right in the heart of the action, including the High Street lot located behind Town Hall (which also serves as the flagship EV charging hub), the River Mill Park lot at Dara Howell Way, the West Street North lot behind the Royal Bank, and the Minerva Street lot. Keep in mind that while free all-day parking transitions to these public lots during the winter, overnight street parking is restricted between November 1 and April 15 to ensure snowplows can keep the roads safe and clear for your winter wonderland travels.

Power Your Trip: Traveling by Electric Vehicle (EV)

Huntsville has embraced sustainable tourism with an impressive network of electric vehicle charging stations throughout the town, ensuring that travelers can explore everything from the stunning Algonquin Provincial Park gateway to charming downtown shops and waterfront attractions without range anxiety.

Prime Downtown Charging: The High Street Parking Lot

When you arrive in town, your first stop should be the heart of our community. Head directly to the Town of Huntsville's flagship charging hub located in the Public Parking lot at 11 High Street, behind Town Hall.

Featuring 4 dedicated universal EV spots, this central location utilizes the Lakeland EV Charging network to provide highly reliable Level 3 DC fast-charging.

It is the absolute perfect base camp to plug in and power up. While your vehicle charges, you are just steps away from exploring our historic main street, grabbing a bite at a local restaurant, or enjoying some shopping along the waterfront.

Other Convenient Charging Hubs in Town:

  • Huntsville Place Mall (70 King William St): Excellent for a quick top-up, featuring an 8-stall Tesla Supercharger network alongside convenient shopping options.
  • Regional & Universal Fast Chargers: You'll find public universal options scattered along major access points, including Ivy Charging (4 Spots) (Universal Charger) outside of Swiss Chalet and Harvey’s at 150 Hanes Road.
