Cedar Canoe Books Skating Rink at River Mill Park

Huntsville’s downtown hub for winter activity is the Cedar Canoe Books Skating Rink at River Mill Park, your gateway to a whimsical winter wonderland! Picture yourself gliding under a sparkling canopy of twinkling lights in the embrace of the crisp evening air.

From January 30 – March 8, 2026, the rink is the centerpiece for SnowFest 2026. SnowFest invites the community to celebrate the magic of winter under a sparkling canopy of lights. Throughout the season, the ice rink will become a glowing hub of activity, filled with music, laughter, and unforgettable seasonal experiences. Each weekend features themed events designed to engage visitors of all ages, combining skating, entertainment, and winter treats in an illuminated setting that transforms the rink into a true winter wonderland.

SnowFest Details

Weekends from January 30 - March 8, 2026

  • Fridays (6-9pm) – Funky Fridays: Glow Night on Ice The weekend begins with a burst of energy and colour! Skaters will glide under black lights and LED displays, surrounded by rhythmic beats from a live DJ and dazzling light shows. Funky Fridays deliver a high-energy, immersive experience that turns the ice rink into a neon dance floor beneath the twinkling canopy of lights.
  • Saturdays (6-9pm) – Silverscreen Saturdays: Skate-in Movie Nights Saturday nights invite families and friends to skate into the movies. Guests can enjoy classic and contemporary films projected rink side while characters mingle and popcorn flows. The canopy of lights sets the perfect cinematic glow, blending the joy of skating with the magic of the big screen.
  • Sundays (12-3pm) – Sundae Fun Days: Sweet Sundays on Ice Sundays bring a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere featuring build-your-own ice cream sundaes, lighthearted games, and cheerful music. Under the daytime shimmer of the light canopy, visitors can savour sweet treats, skate, and share a final dose of weekend fun.

The Greenhouse Rink at Sandhill Nursery’s Forest of Light

For a truly unique experience, visit Sandhill Nursery's Forest of Light, which now features a new skating rink nestled inside illuminated greenhouses. This is a one-of-a-kind setting where you can skate under a warm, magical glow, surrounded by stunning light installations. The lit-up environment makes for an enchanting and comfortable evening on the ice. Skate rentals are available on-site, making this a convenient and memorable stop for visitors.

Surrounded by towering granite cliffs, Lion's Lookout Skating Rink, just off Forbes Hill Drive, is a secluded space for ice-filled fun. Open during daylight hours, this large rink is the ideal place to perfect your twirls, or teach a new generation the excitement of winter outdoors. Arrowhead Provincial Park: Where Skating Meets the Wild

Nestled amidst towering pines and pristine snowdrifts, Arrowhead Provincial Park’s skating trail is a star winter attraction, winding its way through the woods for a unique and immersive natural experience. Glide through the forest and marvel at the beauty of a winter landscape untouched by time. This 1.3-kilometre trail allows you to savour the beauty of winter in a way that's both serene and invigorating. If you don't have your own gear, rentals are available right at the park so you can lace up without the hassle.

If that’s not enough, Arrowhead Provincial Park also offers its spectacular Fire & Ice Nights. Skating through this illuminated wonderland feels like being inside a fairytale. The stars above and the lights below create a mesmerizing ambiance that's perfect for a memorable family outing. Experience winter magic at the Port Sydney Beach Skating Rink, a beloved community gem brought to life by the dedicated Stephenson District Lions Club and local partners. Located right on the beach, you’ll be treated to breathtaking scenic views of the surrounding winter landscape as you glide across the smooth, open ice. Whether you're a seasoned skater or just finding your ice legs, this friendly rink welcomes all for a quintessential Muskoka family experience.

Skating at Mew Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park

For a reliable and unique park experience, head to Algonquin Provincial Park's Mew Lake Campground. Part of the parking lot here is transformed into a fantastic, maintained skating rink during the winter, weather permitting. It's a fun and easy way to enjoy the classic winter setting of Algonquin. Better yet, in case you forget a stick, net, or pucks, the park offers some on loan right at the rink, making it easy for everyone to join in a game of shinny or simply enjoy a relaxing skate beneath the pines.

Indoor Option: Public Skating at the Canada Summit Centre

If the unpredictable winter weather isn't cooperating for outdoor ice, Huntsville still offers a great skating alternative! The Canada Summit Centre hosts scheduled public skating times throughout the winter season. This is a perfect way to keep the fun going, stay warm, and enjoy a few laps on pristine indoor ice when the outdoor rinks are temporarily closed. Be sure to check the Summit Centre's schedule for public hours before you go.
