2025 Canoe Mural Project (June 9-14)

One of the festival's most unique offerings, the Canoe Mural Project celebrates Indigenous culture through art in River Mill Park. Learning serves as the foundation for this year's project. As part of the truth and reconciliation journey, artists will participate in an educational workshop conducted by Indigenous guide Joyce Jonathan Crone, exploring the Seven Grandfather Teachings: love, respect, bravery, truth, honesty, humility, and wisdom. Artists will then create works that thoughtfully interpret these teachings, showcasing their enhanced awareness and understanding of Indigenous perspectives. The murals, created on canoe undersides, will be exhibited publicly in the park until fall 2025. This open-air exhibition will serve as a community learning space, inviting visitors to encounter and reflect on Indigenous knowledge, values, and culture in an open and inclusive environment.

Held at River Mill Park, this special celebration honors Indigenous heritage through performances, activities, and cultural displays. The event provides a meaningful opportunity to learn about and appreciate Indigenous traditions and contributions to Canadian culture.
