LEGENDARY BLUES & REGGAE ARTIST PLAYS THE ETWELL CONCERT SERIES

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jay Douglas is a 3 times Juno Awards nominee, a music producer and band leader of the Jay Douglas All-Star Band. He has performed at various festivals worldwide, including the likes of Rastafest Festival in Toronto and the 4 Seasons Reggae Cruise in Atlanta, Georgia.

Jay Douglas first took to the stage in Montego Bay, Jamaica many years ago as a teenager. With over 45 years of showmanship, he has developed a wide-ranging repertoire and plenty of stage charisma. Back in the early ‘60s and 70’s, Jay was the frontman for “The Cougars,” who, with their skill and verve, lit up clubs in Toronto, Montreal, New York, and Washington D.C. with Soul, Blues, Funk & Reggae. Jay has since shared his gift at various venues all the way from Hong Kong to the Mediterranean.

On top of numerous television appearances and acting roles, Douglas has earned prime-time support slots for a veritable “Who’s Who” of musical legends including Fats Domino, Joe Tex, Percy Sledge, bluesman Roscoe Gordon, The Manhattans, The Drifters, Reggae icons Toots and the Maytals, Sly & Robbie, Steel Pulse, Ziggy Marley, The Fab 5 band, Freddie McGregor, Third World, and his friend actor/comedian Jim Carrey.

Jay Douglas has always had a strong connection with blues and jazz, which is glaringly obvious in his newest album released in 2022, Confession. In Douglas’ own words “Confession is a new album that serves as a testament to my long love of Blues and the type of Rhythm and Blues that came out in the 50’s from artists such as Rosco Gordon, Johnny Ace, Bobby Bland, Dave Bartholomew and Ray Charles.” The album since its release in spring 2022 has been well received reaching top 20 chartings on major Blues charts in US, Europe, Canada, and Australia.

We would like to respectfully acknowledge that we are on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, specifically the Chippewa, Ojibwa and Potawatomi peoples, under the terms of the Robinson-Huron Treaty #61 of 1850, and the Williams Treaties of 1923.

We are grateful to be here. We hope you are too.

Together, we honour all Indigenous peoples – First Nations, Métis and Inuit – for their cultures, their languages, their wise teachings and ways of being, their stewardship and protection of the lands and waters - and life - that have shaped this country since time began.

Together, we commit to acknowledge, to learn, to educate, to create opportunity and to honour sacred places, and to take actions toward real Truth and Reconciliation in support of our commitment to wellness for all, and to walking the path together in respect, peace and harmony for future generations.

G’chi miigwech. Thank you very much.
