125 Years of History and Curling Day in Canada

A Double Celebration on Ice

This winter, the air in Muskoka won’t just be crisp—it will be electric. On January 31, 2026, Huntsville is set to become the epicenter of the Canadian curling world. The town is gearing up for a massive double-header celebration: the 125th Anniversary of the Huntsville Curling Club and the nationwide Curling Day in Canada.

Whether you’re a seasoned "skip" or have never stepped foot on the ice, this is the perfect day to head downtown, celebrate local history, and embrace the sport that defines Canadian winters.

Morning Magic at River Mill Park

The festivities kick off at the heart of Huntsville’s winter life with a blend of tradition and new attractions.

  • Crokicurl Grand Opening (11am-1pm): Be there for the official opening of the brand-new Crokicurl rink! Local dignitaries and guests will throw the inaugural stones. This clever Canadian hybrid combines the strategic fun of Crokinole with the physical skill of Curling. Played on an octagonal ice surface, players slide rocks toward a central "button," aiming for high-value zones while knocking opponents’ rocks out.
  • History Corner (11am-1pm): Take a walk down memory lane at the history booth, featuring photos, artifacts, and stories from the Huntsville Curling Club’s storied 125-year journey.
  • Kids Corner (11am-1pm): Families can enjoy free, kid-friendly activities designed to get everyone into the spirit of the day.
  • Fuel the Fun (11am-1pm): Hot beverages, food, and music will be on-site to keep the energy high and the toes warm.

Open House at the Huntsville Curling Club

The party moves to the Huntsville Curling Club lounge and rink for an afternoon of action-packed events—including a visit from national media!

In the Lounge (2:30–5:30pm):

Explore the History Display for an in-depth look at the club’s heritage or keep the little ones busy at the Kids' Corner. It’s the perfect home base to warm up between events.

On the Ice

  • Try Curling Now! (2:30–3:30pm): This is your chance to get on the ice! There will be a free, hands-on introduction where experienced instructors will guide you through the fundamentals. It’s safe, no experience is necessary, and you can register online or in person to throw your first rock.
  • TSN Special Live Broadcast (4–5pm): National cameras will be on-site! TSN is scheduled to broadcast live from the club, capturing the excitement of Huntsville's curling community for a special cross-country program.
  • Celebrity Curling Game (4–5pm): Watch local celebrities trade their day jobs for curling brooms as they hit the ice for an unforgettable competition on Sheet 3.
  • Youth Curling (4–5pm): Head to Sheet 4 to cheer on some of the best young curlers in Huntsville as they showcase their skills.
  • Canada’s Biggest Shootout (4:25–4:55pm): Watch as members take on a fast-paced nationwide challenge to make as many draws-to-the-pin as possible in just 30 minutes.

A Legacy 125 Years in the Making

The Huntsville Curling Club is one of our town’s oldest and most cherished institutions. Since its founding in 1900, the club has been a cornerstone of local sport, surviving building collapses and fires to remain a hub for the community. From the first stones thrown to the modern facility on Veterans Way, the Huntsville Curling Club’s history is a testament to Huntsville’s enduring love for the "roaring game." Celebrating 125 years isn't just about the sport—it's about the generations of families who have called this club home.
